Lucy Lizard

Follow the directions to Ode to a Horned Toad and Turtle Rock.

Lucy, after visiting Turtle Rock, continue along Turtle Head Peak.
Slither, slither up the wash path,
See with your emerald green eyes the trail marker on your right.
Follow, follow…

At the top of the incline, turn around to look where you came from,
And snap a picture of the eagle perching above the alligator.
Since your sight is so great, if the light is just right,
To your left spy a window rock.

As the trail declines,
Creep along to the large flat outcropping for a bit of sunbathing.
Not too long now…you are close to home.

At 20 degrees magnetic north from the trail path,
Catch a glimpse of a lone, small, twisted juniper.
In line with the juniper is a taller ragged tree.
Lucy, see the rock formation that has a settee built into it.
Lucy, your new home is below the settee behind the rock entrance between a ragged desert bush and cactus.

If you pass the trail sign near the path heading to the open desert, you've missed your new abode and are headed to “Don’t Feed the Horses”.

Think you know your lizard facts? Most people know the basics, but here are some interesting things to know about lizards:

• There are about 3,000 species of lizards.
• Though most lizards have four legs, some have only two and some are even legless.
• Depending on species, lizards range from a few inches in length to more than 10 feet in length.
• Some lizards have tongues that are longer than their entire bodies.
• The Komodo Dragon is the largest lizard in the world.
• Some lizards, such as the Green Iguana, have a third eye on top of their heads.
