Although I’m a wild horse, there are times that I need to take rest stops to eat and rest. But if you see me…PLEASE don’t feed me!

Head to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. After you go through and pay the $7 entrance fee (make sure you get a map) drive to the Turtle Head Peak parking lot.

You’ll need to follow the directions to find my RRC neighbors “Ode to the Horned Toad”,” The Turtle Rock” and “Lucy Lizard”.
Please remember that this is the wild west...meaning wild critters, wild bugs, wild life! Be careful that box locations are critter free before you reach in. You're a long way from medical help! Also no matter what time of the year, bring water.
Once you meet Lucy continue up the trail out into the open range towards Turtle Head Peak.

Box #1
After all the rain we’ve been getting, the bushes are more green than usual. Good eatings! Human’s, please make sure to stay on the marked trail otherwise you might find yourself stuck by many variations of cacti.
As you continue up the inclined path you’ll see to your left at the base of a hill an outcropping of red rocks. Do you see them? Look above these red rocks to the pointed crest of this hill - that point is where we’re heading. My breathing isn’t hard, but I’m sure your human lungs and legs need a rest. Once you get to the point of this hill take a left onto the social path leading towards a resting rock (about 34 steps). Lean against this resting rock (your back to the canyon you have been climbing up) look at magnetic north – 120 degrees. You will find me in a camo bag under a rock under the little twisted juniper. BEWARE…lots of Muggle’s about all the time!

Box #2
After you’ve re-wrapped everything and put it all back, and taken a rest to enjoy the view, go back to the path and continue up the mountainside. I know it’s a hard slope for someone with only 2 legs but I promise you when you find my next resting stop you’ll see that the view was definitely worth it!
The incline is going to get steeper. Pass a wilderness sign on your left (there will be large rocks holding this sign up). Continue on. You can’t see it yet but you’re heading to another sign. This sign will have the no trail emblem on it (reminding you not to go off the main trail). Five paces off the path will get you to this sign. At the base of this sign are also large rocks. My second resting place will be hidden in a camo bag under a slanted sitting rock. Feel free to sit on this slanted rock to stamp, enjoy the view, and maybe eat a well-deserved snack.
Another BEWARE of Muggle’s reminder. The brush is getting scarce but PLEASE don’t feed me!

Feel free to continue up the path to Turtle Head Peak or sit here and rest before heading back down the canyon.
