Bluebird's series "Of All the Things I've Lost" caught Butterfly, R and my interest. We found that most of them were really lost!! Reminiscing about the items we had lost over the years while out letterboxing, we decided to treat you to 3 more "lost" items on a delightful lollipop loop at Peters Memorial Woods on Valley Road in Clinton, CT. (treat - lollipop - get it?) ; )

If you get off I95 at Exit 63 in Clinton, turn onto Glenwood across from the commuter lot. Turn onto Ninety Rod Road about one half-mile up, point 1 (.1) to Fairydell Road - go left. At the Y, stay straight on Brickyard. Pass Whipporwill Road on the left and take the next right onto Valley Road. The parking area with map board will be on the left a short way up the road. A map is also available at: www.clintonct.com/landtrust.htm.

Be aware that the map is not quite accurate, but our directions should not get you lost. There are enough lost items in these woods!

We began our quest on the red trail called Bougie Trail. It is well marked. We passed a blue trail on the right (Princess Pine Trail) and then a yellow trail on the left. Up the hill still on Red, we turned right on the Dark Blue Trail. We just completed the stick of the lollipop and looking forward to the yummy head of the lollipop where we "lost" some treats (letterboxes) to find.

Just as we turned onto the Dark Blue Trail, we counted 18 paces which placed us on a small ridge line with rock outcroppings on each side of the trail on this ridge. While exploring the ledge on the left side of the trail, R dropped her Led Light somewhere under the ledge. Can you find it?

We continued on the Dark Blue Trail and at the T intersection went left on Lighter Blue. (Laurel Ridge Trail) {Note: If you miss the turn you will shortly come to a stream. Oops - you went the wrong way.} So at the intersection previously mentioned, Butterfly fluttered ahead on this Lighter Blue Laurel Ridge Trail past the vernal pool. R and I quickly followed up and up along a stone wall with red marks here and there on the stones until we came to the Red Trail. We tried to find her, but a determined Butterfly is hard to catch. We continued on a short way to the stone wall with the Green Trail on the right. We stopped here and realized that Butterfly had flown onto the Green Trail to look for Bluebird's lost keys. We stood there, calling for her. She fluttered back to let us know that those keys were missing. She flew south east instead on the Light Blue Trail along the stone wall to a sort of ledge with a Black Birch Tree on the left. The trail falls off sharply. She didn't go down the hill though, but we think she may have dropped her own Lost Keys somewhere near the birch tree. Trap doors are nice.

Losing items can be quite tiring business so we decided to finish up the tasty lollipop and head back to the car. We followed the Red trail and after passing the Blue Trail on the left, we went downhill and the trail leveled out. We saw a lone boulder on the left of the trail then looked right to see a horsey tree on top of the ledge. {Note: If you look carefully, the boulder has a red blaze on the backside of it} Wheeee - I ran up for a ride and something fell from my wrist. Can you find my Lost Watch under the tree?

After my ride, we continued on the Red Trail to our car.

We hope you had a memorable time at Peters Memorial Woods!
