If you are coming south on Route 209 from the NYS Thruway, look for the 3rd Rail Trail parking area on the left, if you get to Gill's Farm Market on the right, you went too far. If you are coming north on Route 209, you are looking for the parking area on the right, just past Gill's which will be on your left.

The Marbletown Rail Trail is a publicly owned linear park that follows the path of the old New York, Ontario and Western (O&W) Railroad. The Rail Trail is free and open to the public for walking, running, biking, cross-country skiing, dog walking, horseback riding and nature study throughout the year. For more information, see the PDF located here:

To the box...

From the parking lot, head south on the trail past the kiosk, you can get a trail map here if you didn't print one from the link above. Continue south crossing a bridge and start looking for an O&W marker. In the direction you are going, it will say vertically "E 23" and from the other way it will say vertically "K 4". From this marker look for a fallen tree. Follow this tree to the end and you will see a medium sized tree about 12"-18" in diameter. Behind this tree under a suspicious pile of birch is what you seek.

Please be aware this is a high traffic trail and hide the box better than how you found it. Tick alert! Check yourself when coming out of the woods!

Hike length: 0.5 miles
