Madonna retired as of 11/3/14, but go a few trees further to find an unlisted GS box.

Sculptor August Leimbach created twelve identical statues of "Madonna Of The Trail" as commissioned by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. Dedicated in 1928 and 1929, they were placed in each state along Route 40 (aka The National Old Trails Road), starting in Bethesda, Maryland. The twelfth statue is at the intersection of Rte 66 and Hwy 83 in Upland. Using the inscriptions on each of the four sides (north, south, east and west), decipher the clues below by line, word and letter:

You can choose to make this a couple drive-bys or a six mile hike (round trip). It is a straight and level dirt path, lined with pepper trees, so it may be stroller and wheelchair friendly. You'll see many people walking their dogs, so bring yours along.

When you're finished with each box, make sure the logbook and stamp are sealed in the bag and the box is covered completely with a rock and debris.
