Getting there: Long Eddy, New York is on the Delaware River in the western corner of Sullivan County. To get to the cemetery, take New York State Route 97. Just south of the Douglas City Deli is Cemetery Road. The cemetery is visible from the highway.

-Start at the main gate of the Long Eddy cemetery. Many of the tombstones date back to the 1800’s. Take a look when you are done finding the letterbox.

- Open the gate and walk down the stone path to the chapel.
Turn right and follow the metal number markers (down at ground level) toward the row of pine trees.

-Go to the flagpole at the corner of the cemetery.
At the corner, take the small trail that leads out of the cemetery to a gravel road.

- Turn left on the gravel road. Very shortly, there will be a bend in the road. At that point, look for a small trail that leads to the railroad tracks. Turn left on that trail.

- Turn right on the railroad tracks.

- Look for a telephone pole that says “ERIE 145 50.” (This is a remnant of the old Erie Railroad that used to take passengers to New York City.) At the base of the pole you will find the letter box. (Be careful, the box is guarded by thorny brush!)
