Grandad's Letterbox ~ CLUES
Planted by: Marissa Moon and her dad, MoonPop, on 9/2/12
Active as of: 5/17/14
In honor of: Marissa Moon's late grandad, H.J. Enns

Grandad's Letterbox is hidden at Marymoor Park, specifically within Willowmoor Farm/Park. The box was made in honor of my late maternal grandfather. He was something of a history buff, and wrote a book of his family's history. He photographed the landmark windmill at Marymoor to put on the cover of his book, so it seemed fitting that his letterbox should be planted somewhere in its vicinity.

Directions: From SR-520, take W Lake Sammamish Pkwy exit, turn south. Turn left into Marymoor Park.* Willowmoor is the first right hand turn you come too. Turn in and park. You must pay a mandatory $1.00 fee for parking during Marymoor's open hours. Walk as if to go to the Clise Mansion, stopping before the wrought iron gates. You are at the proverbial starting line...

Take the right fork of the path beyond the gates (left leads to the Clise Mansion) and follow the broad loop towards the windmill. Near the windmill, leave the path and circle around it. (Note the highly interesting, long dead 'upside down' tree nearby.) Please take a moment to appreciate the windmill. In the spring/summer, pansies and a few daisies bloom in its runaway gardens. My grandad photographed it for his family history book, likely as a reminder of his Dutch/Germanic heritage.

Beyond the windmill you will see a bench under a massive fir. It was probably once a relaxing spot overlooking the Sammamish Slough, till bushes obscured the view (however there is a steep packed dirt path down to the bank nearby). Move past this and keep walking straight.

Circle around the small hill you approach. The huge slabs of concrete are part of an abandoned pathway no longer maintained by the park. As you round the hill, note the lone tree in the middle of the lawn you are following. Opposite this tree is another (slightly smaller) slab of concrete. Go to it. Walk forward till you see another chunk of concrete half buried to your left at the base of trees. (15-20 foot walk) From here, walk forward 5-8 steps.

You are incredibly close to your goal now. The trick is finding the box. On your left is a capped off section of pipe.

The letterbox is concealed somewhere under the pipe, carefully camouflaged. Please take care to recreate this camouflage after exchanging stamps/notes/dates/names with Grandad's Letterbox.

(Piles of sticks may read 'Hi' in front of the pipe, courtesy of MoonPop! :D)

Thank you for making the journey to Grandad's Letterbox. Be sure to explore other boxes which I have planted. :D Our network includes over 10 others.

All the best,
Marissa Moon and her dad, MoonPop
