Along Highway 101 you'll find a vast array of activities for everyone. Oswald West State Park has hike-in camping, beaches, hiking trails, and surfing, along with old growth Sitka Spruce. It's wonderful! This area is open all year, even when the rains begin to fall (and they do - it's the Oregon coast!).

The Happy Tabber is the third in a series that come from our travels in our T@B trailer.

You'll begin your search at the day use area and trailhead for Cape Falcon. Just under five miiles round trip, the trail takes you to the top of a fabulous cliff with views that take your breath away (not to mention the edge of the cliff if you choose to peek over).

Walk from the parking lot to the sign pointing in two directions. One way is the trail to Cape Falcon. The other is to the beach. The Happy Tabber isn't on Cape Falcon, but the hike is worth the effort. Let me know what you think.

Take the trail that leads to the beach. Just a few feet after you make your choice you'll come to the Matt Kramer Monument. Stop and read the story behind it. Then take a minute or two to sit on the bench and gaze at the Pacific. As you sit, look over your right shoulder. You'll see a mossy log leading to a lower pathway. Meeting it in the middle is a rotted log. At the end of the mossy arm, look under the ferns and salal. There you'll find one Happy Tabber.

Please be extremely careful when locating and replacing the box. This is a very popular trail. Be sure you hide it well in leaves and moss when you're done.
