From the 41, just past Oakhurst, make a right at the huge sign for Bass Lake, at Road 222. You will stay on the same road, but it will change to Road 274. Your total drive from the big sign is 4.4 miles. You will see a road sign warning you about ice on the bridge. Go over the bridge, but be alert, you are going to take a left just after the bridge onto a dirt road. FYI: This little bridge goes over the water going down to the “falls”. If you see signs for the Pines Resort, you missed it. Take the dirt road until you can park and find the sign informing you about Mountain Lions. Just to the right of that is a little wooden bridge. After the bridge, veer to the left on the trail and find a large tree in the middle of a group of moss covered boulders. The letterbox is in the tree. After you have stamped the letterbox and placed it back in the tree, enjoy the gorgeous scenery. Things to know: poison oak around there, the dirt road is a one lane road.
