The Blacksburg Deerfield Trail is 0.7 of a mile one way in length and located alongside the Tom’s Creek. The Tom’s Creek is one of many local creeks contributing to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. It is important to hold onto the water quality of these creeks, as they contribute to clean water along the eastern coast and eventually to an increased water quality and quantity in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. This carving is stamped in blue to help us remember how important these small creeks are.
This is a story about "Tom" as he walked along on the Blacksburg Deerfield Trail. Tom began walking by and noticing that there was a beautiful creek to walk along with a horse pasture to his right. He waved to the horse and made a mental note to bring an apple next time for his new four-legged friend. As Tom walked along the trail, he noticed that he was walking into the woods before having to huff and puff up a hill. Here, Tom saw a steep hillside, entered the woods, and noticed a small bridge.
Realizing how beautiful the creek was, Tom decided to get a closer look and “left” the trail before crossing the bridge to visit the creek’s edge. While looking at the creek, Tom saw a frog hopping along the creek. As Tom turned to watch a frog hop by the bench, he saw a large tree just past the bench. Walking towards the tree, another bench appeared around the bend. The frog hopped towards this second bench and a second tree before disappearing into the woods.
Tom stood by the second large tree with his back to the creek and noticed a small glen. After walking 9 steps towards the glen, the largest of three groups of trees to the right hid evidence of Tom’s Creek.
