[EXTREME LETTERBOX] To find this box requires more than just a trail and some instructions. Due to its location on an island, a canoe or a kayak is necessary to navigate to its location. Our recommended put-in site is on North Star Lake Road just off of Highway K.

*COMPASS IS NEEDED*

To begin, approach the large island in the center of Star Lake, aka "Eagle Island," and paddle along to the Southwest side of the island. Head west parallel to the Southwest side of the island. Keep your eyes sharp! You'll be passing some landmarks soon!

First pass one sign stating "State Owned Island," then pass an electric box with this pattern of numbers on its side:

1
7
3
1 6

Soon you'll see another "State Owned Island" sign, and place to pull up along the bank. Aside the sign (to the left) there will be a firepit. Pull out your compass! It's time to do some bearings!

From the second sign take a bearing of 60 degrees. Go directly up the hill until your path is barred by a line of pines. Now take a bearing of 120 degrees and walk until you reach a gnarled stump.

Now walk at 80 degrees until you reach two giant downed trees (due to a large tornado in 2010). The box is hidden under the left tree's trunk about three paces from the stump.

*EXTRA* On the way back, walk ten paces directly North from the gnarled stump, then look up for a nice surprise!
