The Mendocino County Court House is located on North State Street in the heart of downtown Ukiah.

The NW corner of the Court House block is home to two Dawn Redwoods, a tree thought extinct until it was rediscovered in its native China in 1944. The Dawn Redwood is deciduous and in the fall, these hardy specimens turn a foxy reddish-brown before dropping their needles.

In the early spring, the three lovely Japanese Magnolias, which sit on the two eastern corners of the block and at the southern door to the Court House, burst forth with their pink tulip like flowers. These 3 trees are the heralds of spring in downtown Ukiah.

Then in the heat of summer, the noble 115 year old Southern Magnolias in the front of the Court House, display their magnificent fragrant blossoms.

To locate the Court House Trees letterbox, walk south from the Court House along School St. until you find the abode of the female siblings. Ask the proprietress if she knows the age of those big magnolias at the Court House.
And while you are there, take a look around in this unique abode.
