The Mt. Charleston Blue Butterfly is considered threatened/almost endangered. They emerge between July and September and are only found in the Mt. Charleston area. Take some time to see them before they are gone!

Trailhead: Fletcher Canyon
Distance: 2 miles round trip/up to 4 miles round trip if you complete the full hike.
Difficulty: Easy, Steady incline.
Directions: From Las Vegas, take US 95 north to Kyle Canyon Road/Hwy 157. Travel west on 157 for about 18 miles to the Fletcher Canyon Trailhead. Parking is on the left.

Clue: After a really windy day, Little Blue found that he had been blown a whole mile from his home in the spring, all the way down to the trailhead. That's a long trip up the hill when your wingspan is less than an inch, so he got started back right away. The creek was dry from no rain but there were many pretty trees to give him shade. After about 3/4 mile he thought it would be fun to play among 2 logs crossing the wash. Hot and tired from exploring, he headed back up the trail, stopping to rest on a nice big stump on his left. He was enjoying the shade but got moving again. Soon he came to a giant, dead tree on the right. Looking up at its smooth, tangled branches made him dizzy! Just then, a big lizard scurried across the trail, startling him into motion. Finally, he saw the beginning of the spring to his left. Little Blue knew his home was still a bit further so he looked for a quiet place to find some nectar. He flew to his right, fluttering over a rock, log and pipe, almost hitting a small pine tree. To his right he could see a nice rock garden. Little Blue never found any flowers there, but you know he found a SPOR! By the 2 flat rocks next to the 5 trunked tree.

This is an area that naturally attracts people, so nobody will wonder what you're up to over there!
