Visit a high point with a lovely view that's easy to get to.

Location: Point Lookout, above Foordmore Road in Kerhonkson, NY.

Route Difficulty: A 1.2 mi. round-trip hike with about 400' of climbing from the road.

Directions:
Take Route 209 West from the Kingston area or East from Ellenville to Kerhonkson. Foordmore Road is West of the junction with Route 44/55. From Route 209 turn onto Foordmoore Road near a large oil tank and a sign for the Ukranian National Association camp. Follow the road across the Rondout on a steel bridge. Look for a small turn-off just after a small bridge with a steel gate on the right. There should be signs saying 'Deer Hunting Only'. If the road starts going uphill you've gone too far. The turnoff is small with a steel gate attached to boulders. Park beside the gate and walk around it.

Clue:
From the parking area, find a large tree with three white paint blazes on it. Follow the white trail blazes roughly 60 two-step paces past a small sign on a tree to the left. Turn left onto an old road that diverges from the marked trail. Cross a muddy stream and continue up hill. The path is steep and there are some downed trees along it. You will reach a junction with a trail entering to the left. Go past it and continue up hill. From here on you will see sparse yellow trail markers. Follow them up and right to the open view ledge. If coming from the camp, take the yellow-blazed trail up to the ledge. Otherwise climb up the cliff? I see some sign-ins are from people who climbed up from below. The best views from this point are in the autumn leaf season.

When you reach the three blazes at trail's end look to your right and find the ledge where it is comfortable to sit. The treasure is hidden among the gnarled roots of an ancient pitch pine tree to the right. This is a small box and may be difficult to see. Please re-hide the box carefully.

Box Contents:
2.1” x 3.5” Log Book
Mini Pencil
2” diameter stamper
Two VersaColor mini pigment stampers (Fresh Green & Bamboo)

Bonus Microbox!
New bonus box added 4/21/2013. After reaching the box on Point Lookout go back down to the junction with the yellow-blazed trail you passed on the way up. Turn right onto the yellow (and drippy fluorescent green in places) blazed trail. Cross two small streams and take the second woods road on the right. Turn back if you reach a difficult stream crossing. (Unless you're going back to the camp.) There is private property ahead. Take the old road a short distance uphill until it dead-ends at a clearing on the right. Turn right and look for a tree with a white reflector on it. The box is hidden in a hollow under the far side of the tree.

Godsend is a microbox with only a stamper and log book. There is no ink pad or pencil.
