A beautiful high mountain spot within Conejos County Colorado. This area is at an elevation of around 11,000 ft. and is only accessible by car in summer and the beginning of fall. Practice safe travel in such a high elevation, thunderstorms can occur without notice and the nearby creeks fill quickly. Wee spent a few days in this glorious area until our car battery died. Without a backup and lack of traffic the first person I came across was 8 miles from our camp. From the box the closest town is Platoro (12 mi.) Use caution and always plan ahead for all possible occurances. Lots of bikes and ATV as well as campers peak just after the fourth of July.

Driving Directions:

From Chama, NM;drive north on 17 through Cumbres and La Manga pass for approximately 25 miles. Turn left onto FR 250 on a rocky dirt road for 23 miles , the town of Platoro is to your left, another box is within this town. Continue and follow the sign to Platoro Reservoir you will take two hairpin turns up to the lake continue about a Hal mile until the sign for Alamosa River take a sharp right and continue up Stunner Pass and down to the bridge (6mi) over the river. From here turn left at the Stunner Campground and veer right immediately to continue on FR380 until you pass Lake De Nolda (private) and veer left onto FR243 pass Lake Anella (private) towards Treasure Creek. Exactly . 7 miles after turning left at Lake Anella you will pass Prospect Creek which runs under the road. Park here and follow the hints from here.

Two alternate routes are from highway 160 along Fr 380 through Elwood pass and from Alamosa along FR250 through Jasper ghost town.

Box HINTS:

From where you parked check out the waterfall coming down the mountain side. Next follow Prospect Creek over the road and down the meadow until you reach it's confluence with Treasure Creek .

Between where the small creek runs and where it ran there are two dead logs, the box is in the SPOR at the end of the smaller log.

OR with your back facing where the two creeks meet, locate the smallest log, inspect its end for the SPOR.

Have fun an be safe!
