This letterbox is part of the 2012 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2012 – September 3, 2012. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.
This letterbox is located in Carroll Valley Commons. It is 0.72 miles in distance and is rated "moderate" by Roads to Freedom standards.
Locate the “Wall of Honor” near the parking lot. How many years did Ronald Harris serve in the military? ___
Now walk along the nearby cement path and turn right onto the gravel path before the bridge.
At the next bridge, turn right and then left before the fence.
Walk either way around the loop to locate two birdboxes. What number is on the unpainted birdbox facing the waterfall? ____
Continue around the loop, in either direction, until you reach the main path again.
Turn right on the path, cross the nearest bridge and then continue in the direction toward where two streams merge.
When you reach nine steps, walk up them and cross the creek. Once on the other side, turn left, carefully walk along the lakeside.
Walk down to the grassy lawn below and across to the lone tree there.
Turn left, walking to the creekside, and locate the artifact ____ (years of service - # of unpainted birdbox) paces to your left.
To return to your vehicle, cross the bridge again and turn right. Follow the gravel path as it passes a well and a play area. Turn right at the cement path, cross the bridge, and end at the parking lot.
