This letterbox is part of the 2012 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2012 – September 3, 2012. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.
This letterbox is located in Gettysburg National Military Park. It is 1.0 mile in distance and is rated "moderate" by Roads to Freedom standards.
NOTE: You must complete the clues for the Brogan artifact before finding this artifact. If you do not follow the Brogan clues first, you may be confused or get lost.
Starting from the Brogan artifact, turn north (toward town) and head back along the road. Carefully walk on the grass on the side of the road. You will pass a stone wall, more cannons and a few other monuments.
Soon the stone wall will become a stone and rail fence. Continue heading toward another small white farm.
When the walkway ends, carefully cross back over the road and walk up three small steps to another wayside panel display. Read about this farm and then locate the artifact on a leg of the display.
To return to your vehicle, walk straight past the house and along the sidewalk that parallels the road. You will pass more cannons as the path curves back through the trees and to the parking lot.
