This letterbox is part of the 2012 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2012 – September 3, 2012. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.

This letterbox is located in Gettysburg Recreational Park. It is 0.82 miles in distance and is rated "easy" by Roads to Freedom standards.

 As you stand in front of the Charlie Sterner building, follow the sidewalk around to the left of the building.
 Cross a short grassy area to reach the paved trail near the back corner of the building. This is the Biser Fitness Trail.
 Turn right on the Fitness Trail, carefully cross the driveway at the crosswalk, and proceed past the playground on your right and a pavilion on your left.
 When you reach the “Y” by the chin-up station, stay to your left.
 As you walk along the trail, you will notice a cemetery on your right. Stevens Run will also be your right when you turn a corner.
 Continue on the trail as it heads toward the battlefield.
 Look toward the battlefield on your right and, when you see a white house on the ridge, look off the trail into a small grove of trees.
 The artifact you are seeking can be found near a bush.
 To return to the parking lot, retrace your steps (0.82 miles) or continue to follow the Fitness Trail to the parking lot (0.93 miles).
 If you choose to continue on the trail, make sure you follow the path past the pavilion and turn left at the bathrooms. The trail will continue between the baseball fields.
