This letterbox is part of the 2012 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2012 – September 3, 2012. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.

This letterbox is located in Oakside Community Park. It is 1.54 miles in distance and is rated "moderate" by Roads to Freedom standards.

 Upon entering the park, locate the paved parking area on your left. This is the parking area closest to the main park office.
 Locate the Esther Little Trail across the park road and begin your adventure there.
 Turn left at the wooden bear sculpture and remain on the gravel path past the pond and over a wooden bridge.
 When you reach the little John Deere tractor post, stay on the path that leads to the right.
 Continue walking along this trail as you pass two wooden owls on your left.
 Stay straight at the next two crossroads until you reach the “pets” sign. You should find another wooden bear on your left.
 Take a deep breath, enjoy the view and continue on the trail. You should pass by a playground on your left.
 As you near another intersection you will find two exercise bars on your left. In another 15 steps, you will be at a crossroads with many options. Stay to the right as the trail enters more dense woods.
 Upon emerging from the woods, a farm field will be on your right. Look for a blue trash can, a single bench, and the artifact located nearby.
 To return your vehicle, you can retrace your steps (1.54 miles) or continue on the existing path (1.67 miles).
 If you continue on the path, you will reach a bench for whom the trail was named on your right. Cross the bridge located near this bench and turn right on the trail.
 Cross another bridge and walk around the pond. When you reach the other side, pass the maintenance buildings and stay on the trail as it passes by the baseball fields.
 Stay on the path past another playground that is outside the outfield fence. Turn right and your vehicle should be in the parking lot nearby.
