This letterbox is part of the 2012 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2012 – September 3, 2012. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.

This letterbox is located at Gettysburg College. It is 1.0 mile in distance and is rated "moderate" by Roads to Freedom standards.

 Park in the parking lot at the end of West Lincoln Avenue in front of the stadium.
 Start your adventure at the Gettysburg College Veteran’s Memorial near the stadium. Turn right and follow the sidewalk as it passes in front of a residence hall.
 In front of the first residence hall, turn right at the tree in the triangle and continue until you reach the first sidewalk on your right. Carefully cross a few sidewalks and continue east on the sidewalk. The building on your left should have large glass windows including a spire that houses a climbing wall.
 You will pass two more buildings on your right before arriving at a wide sidewalk on your right before a stop sign. Turn and walk toward the fountain.
 On your right is a building named after Eddie Plank, a graduate of Gettysburg College 100 years ago who became a professional baseball player.
 Continue past the fountain, staying to the left of a small house that has an owl in each of its stained glass windows.
 Up ahead you should see a large brick building that some say looks like Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter series.
 As you pass this building, you will notice a four-story building on your left that looks a little different than the other campus buildings.
 Walk to the front of this building – which once served as a Union signal station and hospital during the Civil War – and locate the artifact nearby.
 To return to the parking lot, walk back toward the brick building that looks like Hogwarts and turn right toward the fountain. When you reach the small house with stained glass windows that you passed earlier, turn left and follow the lamp-lit path toward the flagpole in the distance. You will need to carefully cross one road and then a grassy area before reaching your vehicle.
