Can you believe an entire city was moved? Hibbing MN gained national attention in the early 1920's when the city was moved, 185 houses, 20 businesses, even a hotel was relocated. They used horses, cables and log rollers. The structures are gone but you can visit part of North Hibbing to this day and visit what remains. There are streets and sidewalks, street signs, historic information and old foundations. Other parts of North Hibbing are completely gone because the Hull Rust Mine took over the spot.
Where have all the flowers gone? Drive into North Hibbing on 1st Avenue, turn right onto Lincoln, stop at the historical sign on the right. Read about the Finnish Workers Hall. Look to the left side of the sign and at 160 degrees go south towards a huge old 'octopus' looking tree. There is a fallen log about 6 ft. long behind behind the old octopus tree. Look to the far end of the log where the flowers have gone. Be sure to replant the flowers very well and place bark and twigs, etc. around the end of the log.
