My family moved to Lake Havasu City in 1970. Back in those days the bridge wasn’t even finished yet. We would often come to the peninsula to watch the construction. It was a great time to be around in Havasu. Once the bridge was built the town slowly started growing, but not so quickly that our directions didn’t stay the same. Back then to find the box all we’d have to say was “across the bridge, hang a right towards crazy horse then to site six. I’ll spare you the Havasuvian directions to “Fishing Spot #3”.
If you’re coming from out of town follow 95 into town and turn right or left up Swanson towards Lake Havasu Avenue (be turning away from the lake). Turn left onto Lake Havasu Avenue and stay in the left lane to turn left onto the overpass and then onto The London Bridge. (The Bridge has incredible history so make sure to find the historical information on it). Make your way across the overpass and then over the London Bridge. Once you to over the LB get into the right lane and look for Beachcomber Blvd. Turn right onto this road and reset your trip odometer. As you’re driving look to your left and see the biker/walker path that makes its way around the entire island. Farther down the road on the left was where the original airport was located. It was always such a great view landing and taking off on this island with the blue water surrounding the flight. The take-off and landings were not so great during our horrific windstorms though.
At around odometer reading 1.7 you’ll come to a dividing into 2 lanes. Get into the right lane and look for the larger white sign saying “Welcome Site Six Lake Havasu”. Turn at that sign. Come down into the bay and follow it around to read the historical marker and maybe even park and walk out onto the dock. When you're done enjoying the scenery get back into your car and head back the way you came. You'll see dumpsters on your right with the curb painted green. Follow that to the end where you'll see a large green utility/electrical box (#804338). You can pull in along the curb and park and letterbox or you can park in the lot, grab the l/b and head to the dog park picnic table and stamp. Behind the green box is an oleander that you need to head to. On the backside of the oleander (fence side) you'll find a S.P.O.R. Grab the camo'd letterbox and dart...it's a very busy area!!
You’re in the desert where any sort of mammalian, reptilian, arachnidian creature can do you some serious damage.
Please make sure to bag everything back up and be discreet when you are searching and replanting the box. This is a VERY busy area. If there are problems with the box please let me know so I can take care of it.
