Culver, IN is a small town with a lot of history, including two museums in town.
In 1843, it was known as Geneva, then for a short time as Yellow River Post Office. In 1844 it became Union Town. In 1851, the platted village was made and named Marmont, honoring a French General. Before that, the entire area was inhabited by Pottawatomi Indians.
In 1895, it was proposed to change the name to Culver City, to honor Henry H. Culver, founder of The Academy. There was some dissent from the Post Office Department because there was already a Culver City in Tippecanoe County. Mr. Culver went to great extents and finally prevailed and Marmont became known as the Town of Culver. It wasn't until 1949 that the legal name was changed to just Culver.
Culver Military Academy is a private, co-ed boarding school. Notable Alumni include: Eugene Eppley, Hotel Magnate; Alexander, Crown Prince of Yugoslavia;
Frank Batten, founder of The Weather Channel; George Foreman III; Hal Holbrook; Gene Siskel; George Steinbrenner; Roger Penske, among others.
Culver Military Academy is also "Home to the legendary Black Horse Troop, an elite horsemanship group of high school students who attend the Academy. The Troop has ridden in Presidential Inaugural Parades since 1913."

My Grandpa & Grandma both worked at The Academy. Because of that, we got to take tours and attend special events for the families of employees. As a horse crazy young girl, what I most remember was walking through the barns of The Black Horse Troop. I enjoyed that SO MUCH!!!
To this day, with all of the changes that have been made in the past - oh! - 30 or 40 years!!!!! - I can still pick out the building where the horses live. :)

....But how I digress!....TO FIND THE LETTERBOX:
Find City Park on the shore of Lake Maxinkuckee. Park near the Beach House at the Eastern end of the lot.
Take a stroll along the shore of the lake, still headed Easterly, first along sidewalk, then beyond the Pavillion, into the Woods.
The Cadets from The Academy use these paths to get back & forth to town.
Follow the path along the lakeshore, taking care as it is sometomes Rooty. After you've stepped over some roots with a rock wedged into them, a large fallen one will block your way. Turn away from the water, head up the path towards another fallen one. Turn to walk under it and up, up, up to find an asphalt path. Take that path to the right, continuing up hill. A lot of limbs and branches on both sides. There's a big log on the right with a possible hidey hole. (If you get to a choice in the path, you've gone too far.)
Stand facing the log and the lake, with your right hand atop the hidey hole. Lean forward, over the log and the letterbox should be there, tucked under it, covered with bark and sticks. Suggest stamping at the picnic tables back at the Pavillion. Take Care! re: Cadets & Muggles!
