NOTE: Alive and well 12.5.13

The first time I stopped to see the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden, it was a chilly December day. It was very still. There was a light frosting of snow on the pieces and the air had a misty, silver hue. These works are very intense on a bright, sunny day but the way I first saw them was most appropriate. As emotional as the artworks are, I find the sight of all the baby pines along the pathways every bit as moving. One has been planted for every one of the 50,000 Americans who fell in Vietnam.

To the trailhead: The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden is twelve miles North of Weed on Highway 97, 1 mile North of CR A12 on the west side of highway.

To the letterbox: Find the trio asking “why?” From these go north to a joyous greeting. Standing by the tallest juniper, take a bearing of 22 degrees magnetic to a stump where you will find this peaceful little letterbox resting at its base.
