Locate Valentine Park just outside Monticello, IL. This park is located just to the east of the Monticello Cemetery. Park in the small lot and head to the trail head. You will see a monument that resembles a grave stone that tells about the park, and the trail head is very near this marker. You'll also see a brown information sign where you should begin. Walk on the path, noting the trees and wildlife (we've seen deer here quite a bit, even in the middle of the day!). You'll see many trees have identifying posts in front of them. Continue walking until you locate Prunus Serofina. You will see a dead (and somewhat creepy) looking tree just above you. Follow this tree to its roots on the left side of the path, and you will find Floyd's new hiding place! You can turn back and return to your car (total walk probably 1/4 mile), or you can continue on the path for what is probably a 1/2 mile walk (the end of the trail will come out just beyond where you started your journey in the park).
While you're in the area, you should check out our nearby boxes in the Monticello Cemetery, as well as others we have planted in Piatt County!
