re-planted 9.6.13

Though my son Liam is only 7 years old, he knows more about the Titanic than most adults. He can tell you ship demensions, crew member details, and passenger personal stories. This being the 100 year anniversary of the sinking, we planted a box in memory of the tragedy.

April 12, 1912 The RMS TITANIC set sail on its maiden voyage from England to New York. Titanic tragically sank on April 15, 1912. Margaret Brown "Unsinkable Molly Brown" survived on lifeboat #6. Margaret Brown led the first class ladies in rowing themselves to safety. She tried in earnest to pursuade the crewman to return the lifeboat to the site of the sunken ship to look for possible survivors. After being rescued she helped raise $10,000 to benefit the families of victims and survivors of Titanic. She was a socialite, feminist, suffragist, philanthropist, and activist. She is buried on Long Island, NY in the Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.

Holy Rood Cemetery is located at Old Country Road in Westbury, NY. "Molly" is in the ST BRIGID section. Make your way to the St Brigid Section before you start. THERE IS AN ENTRANCE TO THE CEMETERY NEAR ST BRIGID CHURCH ON POST AVENUE/LEXINGTON AVE. YOU CAN SPOT MARGARET BROWN FROM THE GATE. IF YOU CAN FIND PARKING HERE, THIS IS A VERY QUICK WAY TO START.
OUR CLUES START AT THIS GATE. GATE CLOSES AT 4:45 pm.

-OR- If you want, you can enter at the main entrance on Old Country Road and find the interment directory at the office.
Look up Margaret T. Brown (died 1932). The directory will show you the location of her grave. You can walk through the cemetery, check out the (9/11 victims section). But if you are in a hurry you should use the quick start by St Brigid Church.

VISIT "UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN":
1. Make your way to the ST BRIGID section. Stand at the gate located at the entrance Post Avenue/Lexington Ave. You should be on a path with the church on your right.
2. Watching your steps, let the SAINTS guide your feet on the LEFT side...pass OSWALD and PRISCILLA. Stop at QUENTIN.
3. Walk now with your back to the church and look among her neighbors Dwyer, Shea, and Small. Pay your respects to Margaret and her husband J.J. Brown.

RMS TITANIC stamp:
1. Return to the path at QUENTIN and keep church on your right side. Let the SAINTS guide your feet on the RIGHT this time. Pass FERDINAND and stop at GALL.
2. Walk towards the church steeple until you reach the church fence.
3. Titanic is buried in a tree stump (next to a sister tree with one split trunk).

THIS IS TRULY A "TITANIC" STAMP, IF YOU HAVE A SMALL LOG BOOK YOU MIGHT NEED A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER.
PLEASE RE-HIDE AND COVER HER WELL
