Bose Ikard was born a slave in July 1843 in Noxubee County, Mississippi, and became one of the most famous black frontiersmen and trail drivers in Texas. In 1866 he went to work for Oliver Loving as a trail driver and after Loving was killed by Comanche Indians Ikard continued in the service of Loving's partner, Charles Goodnight. The two men became lifelong friends and Goodnight later commented that he trusted Bose farther than any living man. Bose eventually settled in Weatherford where he died in 1929 and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, where this box is located. The story "Lonesome Dove" is taken partly from the lives of Goodnight and Loving, and the character Joshua Deets portrayed by Danny Glover in the movie is based on Bose Ikard.

Directions:
From Weatherford go east on Highway 180 until you cross the railroad bridge, then turn left at the next street, which is Hogle. Turn left at Jameson Street, then right on Mill Street and Greenwood cemetery will be on your left, but continue to Front Street and turn left then left through the main gate. Go straight to light pole on right and park.
Clues:
Bose Ikard's grave is on the right below the historical marker. To find the box, walk down the road 25 steps the direction you were driving to a cedar tree on the left just before a light pole. Microbox is within under a rock and needles.
