The James Blake House was built in 1661. It is known as the oldest house in Boston.

Take the #16, 17, or 41 bus to the Columbia Rd & Mass Ave bus stop. You will find yourself in front of the KFC at 695 Columbia Rd.

Bear right down Columbia Rd until you get to a metal shoe statue post.

Bear right and walk through the open park at Edward Everett Square to the huge Clap Pear statue. Patiently look around and read the educational signs and posts. Learn some local history!

At the pear, walk to the sidewalk to the left of Tedeschi. Keep Tedeschi on your right as you walk on the sidewalk down East Cottage St. until you get to the crosswalk. Cross the street.

You will see a stone fountain dedicated to mothers. Follow the little path through the grass (watch your step!) to the sidewalk by Columbia Rd. When you reach the sidewalk, turn right and walk along Columbia Rd.

Walk past the flagpole and the statue of Edward Everett. They will be on your right.

You will see a little gray house surrounded by a green fence. There is a red sign on the fence.

Come in through the gate and walk to the house. Beware! The gate may be locked. But the James Blake House is open to the public on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 11am to mid-afternoon.

In front of the house you will notice the stairs. Under the stairs, on the right side, there will be bricks. Can you find the letterbox?
