The Madison Historical Society building was built in the late 1800’s for use as the town hall until the 1950’s when town hall business was moved to the old Odd Fellow’s building near the head of the Silver Lake. The building was then used as a recreation hall to host all town events including youth activities. In 1958 the Madison Historical Society was first organized and eventually moved into its present building to preserve the relics, stories and history of Madison and its people.
The Madison Historical Society is open on Tuesdays 2-4 PM from Memorial Day till Labor Day. For more information visit the Website at http://madisonhistorical.us/
Clues: The Madison Historical Society is at Madison Corner on East Madison Road just off Rte. 113. Park your car at the historical society parking lot. You will see a marker in front yard for the Granville Brothers who grew up nearby on the Granville Farm. Also notice a sign marking a hiking trail beginning behind the building, along Forrest Brook to the Madison Cascades part of a 25 acre parcel owned by the Town of Madison since 2004 and managed by the Conservation Commission.
Follow the trail markings up to the trail head. Follow the trail a short distance until you see the first red metal hiking trail marker attached to a tree. Look to your left and forward a bit to see a large blow down lying on the ground. Carefully make your way to the top toward the stone wall and notice a maple tree with a very curved bottom. Search under the curve and you will find your prize! Remember to be secretive and return the Letterbox exactly as you found it.

Hike length: 0.5 miles
