Distance: .7 mile round-trip
Difficulty: There are some steeps spots. It can also be rather muddy.

That’s One Angry Flock! is planted on the BLUE TRAIL at the Lordsland Conservancy Nature Preserve off of Doc Ahlers Rd. in Cherry Valley. There is also an orange trail where there is a series planted, but that is off of Gage Rd. I will provide directions to the Blue Trail by going by the Orange Trail in case you want to find both. You can find a map of both trails here: http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/newyork/placesweprotect/easternnewyork/wherewework/eastern-lordsland-conservancy.xml#thingsToDo

*There is a faster way to this series if you want to just map Doc Ahlers Rd. Cherry Valley, NY instead of following the directions below.

**There is only one logbook, in the last box.

***There is no ink. Markers work best.

Direction:
At the stop light in the village of Cherry Valley, take Rte. 166 SOUTH. Go 4 miles and turn left onto Rte. 165. Go .3 mile and turn left onto CR-57. Take your 1st right onto Gage Rd. At the “y” veer left to stay on Gage Rd. Go to the end (just prior to the end you will find the pull-off for the ORANGE trial) and turn right onto Doc Ahlers Rd. (there is no road sign for the road). Go .4 miles to the BLUE TRAIL for the Lordsland Conservancy Nature Preserve on the right hand side of the road. It is across from a green house with a blue garage.

Clues:

The Blue Trail is well marked, but meanders a lot so always keep an eye out for the blue trail markers. I got off the trail a couple of times so be careful!

Wood Breaker
Head down the trail and sign in. After signing in, turn right down the trail and go 19 paces to a 2-trunked tree with a boulder next to it on the left. Wood Breaker busted a hole at its base!

Maching Bird
Continue down the trail. You will pass a huge flat boulder with a tree growing out the top on the right. Then you will come to some old mossy logs along both side of the trail. There is a stone on the left side of the trail right before the logs. Behind the stone (about 6 paces) is a 20 ft. stump. Going at maximum speed, Maching Bird blasting into a crevice at its base!

Glass Jaw
Continue on the trail to the bottom of the hill where you will find a big tree (my tree identification skills were escaping me!) with a mossy boulder on its right. Go 9 paces BACK up the trail and look left for a double trunk tree with a fallen limb between the trunks. Glass Jaw split into three, 2 flew out of control into the woods never to be seen again and 1 lodged itself on the backside of the tree, between the trunks & underneath the limb!

Egg Beater
Go back to the bottom of the hill and continue on the trail. You will walk through an apple grove. As you start back up the hill, you will see a gigantic limb that fell in the trail (not sure if it will cleared at some point) from a very old maple tree. Go up to the maple tree and you will see a much small limb with lots of moss on it. Egg Beater flew overhead, dropping one of its destructive eggs and wedging it on the backside of the limb, next to a rock!

Parabeak
Go back to the trail and continue on (you may have to make your way around the gigantic fallen limb). You will come to a wooden sign with a yellow arrow on it. Follow the arrow, staying on the Blue Trail. You will then come to another wooden sign with a yellow arrow on it. From this one, go 17 paces to a curve in the trail. Before curving, look straight ahead. Parabeak flew past a small pine tree and then the huge pine tree behind it. He then boomeranged back around, slicing into the left side of the huge pine tree and landing into a crevice at its base!

Kamikaze Bird
Go back to the trail and continue on. You will come to another wooden sign with a yellow arrow on it, follow it to stay on the blue trail. You will pass a huge mossy boulder on the right. You will come to another wooden sign with a yellow arrow on it. Before turning to follow the arrow, look straight up to a rock wall. Kamikaze Bird flew behind the rock wall, landing in a tree, blowing it up, and leaving behind a 5 ft stump! You will find his final resting place inside the stump, next to a beautiful white rock. REST IN PEACE MY DEAR ANGRY BIRDS!

**Continue to follow the Blue trail back to your car.
