A BIT OF BACKGROUND:
Some 20 years ago a bunch of young guys that had been friends for years started a tradition, Hairy Man Weekend. We camped, drank, ate and just thoroughly enjoyed each others company. Time passed , we drank, ate, and continued to grow older and hairier. Now we have families, and it has become harder to get just "the guys" together. So, HairyMen became Hairy Families and we have continued these times together with our families. Throughout it all, one constant has been out love of the outdoors, and time spent together around New Years. This year we took this to Dear Leap in Windham NH, to place our first letterbox as a group.

DIRECTIONS:
From I-93 take exit 3 and head east. Make a right turn onto 111-a (at the Mobil station/McDonalds). Go Approximately 2.3 miles, turn left onto Marblehead rd. Follow Marblehead for about 1.5 miles. Just before the turn off for the trailhead, there is a sharp right bend in the road and you will pass "Deer Run rd" on your right. The entrance to the trailhead is up a dirt road on your right that is just between house #72 and 74. Drive up the road a little way and there is a small parking area on your left.

TO FIND THE BOX:
Take the trail from the parking area. The whole trail loop will take about 30min to walk, but plan on longer to enjoy the overlook and to find the box. It is an easy trail with good footing, but parents should take caution with little ones by the overlook as it is a straight drop of the back side of the cliff.
Shortly after getting started you will pass an old cellar in the ground on your right. Just after that the trail splits. Stay to the right. The trail on your left will be your return. You will stay on the trail for a short while and begin to see water on your right. Soon after, you will begin to see some of the many rock outcropping in the area. Continue ahead to the overlook, and enjoy the view.
Now it is time to start you search. Come back down from the lookout and rejoin the trail heading onward to your right/east (as you are coming off the overlook). Go 60-65 steps up the small rise in the trail to where you will see a 6ft, flat, table rock that most likely split from the larger rock next to it due to the growth of the tree that is now just a rotted stump between them. Turn right and head off the trail towards the water 28 steps. Keep those rocks and the other ones that are a part of the hillside on you left as you count your steps. You should see a 3ft triangular rock at the base of an oak tree. Walk around and look under the rock. In the back covered by smaller rocks you will find your prize!
This can be a very heavily used area, so, please be discrete, and use care when replacing the box.
