*Please Note* logbook is very small...1.5 x 2 inches. If your signature stamp is larger, you may want to use your thumbprint or just write your trail-name.

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
...
...
I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for

I will NEVER FORGET! All those lives lost on 9/11. Innocent lives ending abruptly and in great fear and terror. Babies on airplanes, people working their jobs, all the brave men and women of the NYFD and NYPD, plus the many members of the US military who immediately went off to war and gave their lives to protect our freedom. I am thankful to the soldiers who protect this country every day, many paying the ultimate price. Never take freedom for granted. 9/11 didn't happen to someone else. It happened to You and to Me. This country. Not one of those countries you hear about on the evening news. Don't for one second ever think something like that couldn't happen again.

Okay now that we have established the fact that I am extremely patriotic, make your way to the beach volleyball court parking lot just past the Open Space in Traverse City. Park as close to the courts as you can. Walk on the sidewalk in the direction of the courts. On your stroll, read about the Open Space, take a drink, learn about the watershed, and discover West End Beach. There are lots of places to sit, but your walk isn't long. Up ahead is a grouping of pines. Then you will come to the memorial. It's dedicated to the Korean War veterans. There is a big reminder that Freedom Is Not Free. While the Korean War doesn't really have anything to do with 9/11, I still felt this was an appropriate and beautiful place to plant this box. Take the sandy path to the beach but don't go to the water's edge. Instead follow the rocks to your left. Walk approximately 32 steps. There is a large dark gray triangle shaped rock with an even larger rock balancing on top of it. There is a space to the left of them. In here, close to the triangle rock and under a smaller rock, is the box. Please be sure box is hidden completely from all angles when you are finished as this is a very busy place.
