Andy is my dog (a Papillon) and he is working on his Dog Scout Letterboxing Patch (see dogscouts.org). Andy loves the freedom of this off-leash trail almost as much as he loves to fetch his ball.
Access the off-leash area of Freedom Trail by taking North Temple to Canyon Road. Drive north until you see the park gates and park on the street. Wind your way through Memory Grove, keeping the creek on your left. The off-leash trail is clearly marked in the northeast corner of Memory Grove.
Follow the main trail, keeping the creek on your left. About 0.15 miles up the trail, on the right side, there are two benches and a plaque making up the South High Freedom Plaza. A little further up the trail are the remnants of a stone foundation, also on the right. Just up the trail and around a slight bend, on the left, is a memorial to freedom made of several metal posts with plaques mounted on them.
Find the plaque with quotes from Talmud and Rabbi Eric Silver. Facing the plaque you will see a large boulder, resting on a smaller one, directly behind the post. There are several small rocks piled in the gap between the bases of the two boulders. If you walk around to the other side of the boulders you will find only a few rocks in the gap. The letterbox is under these few rocks. Please seal pouch carefully and make sure it isn't visible when you replace it.
