This box is one of a series of boxes placed in Highland County on public trails. They were placed to help visitors to our county find public places to get out and walk and enjoy the beauty of the mountains.
This box is in a Wildlife Management Area.
NOTE: IN 2012 the Wildlife Management Areas began requiring a day pass for walkers. Anyone 17 or older must have one or risk being fined if caught. Passes may be obtained in McDowell at the Mountain Oasis Store.

To find the start of the trail: From McDowell, VA take 250 West about 2 miles until you see Davis Run Road on your left. Travel that paved/dirt road two miles until you see Jack Mountain Road on your right. Park on Davis Run Road (there is parking on the side of the road right beyond Jack Mountain Road, or parking about 1/5 mile beyond in a curve of the road.)

Jack Mountain Road is driveable with a four-wheel drive vehicle, but this is a fairly level one mile walk in and out so I highly recommend walking to locate the box. Be aware that there are two stream crossings which in wet weather could be soggy crossings. In dry weather, you can leap from rock to rock to make the crossings.

Clue:
Walk down the road, a gravelled path
About a mile, you do the math,
You'll jump the water, once, then twice
Walking in the woods is nice.
Soon a campground you will spy
The box is hidden closely by
Read about the place you are
Then face right, it's not too far
Across the road, a rock you'll see
Behind the rock, a whitish tree
Beneath the tree a pile of rocks
Beneath the rocks a plastic box.
You don't need another clue.
You've found it, Mountain Trail Box 2!
