Mounds View has lots of trees and lots of parks. The hunt for these 2 letterboxes begins at a park name for a tree, which produces a nut-like seed.

(This first box is missing due to the deterioration of the hiding place! You can still find box #2--directions in the 2nd paragraph.) Once you find the park, if you have a soccer ball with you, you may want to play a pick-up game, but the letterbox hunt begins across Hillview Road on the gravel path. Walk north until you reach the edge of the trees and then look left to find a security light pole in the green space. Go to the light pole and then walk approximately 50 paces northwest to the edge of the trees. You should find a path there. Go down the path into a ravine and then up over a dead log. (Note: if you are adventurous, follow the creek bed at the bottom to the east to a culvert, otherwise, continue reading) Once up out of the ravine look right (east) and you’ll see a tree with 3 trunks. Walk there and let your gaze travel down the hill along the fallen tree trunk. You should see a culvert, and in line with it, another fallen log. Somewhere along that rotten log, your hunt for Letterbox #1 should end.

Retrace your steps, up the hill, into the open space, to the path, through the ravine and back out into the park. Go east to the main gravel path and turn left/north. Begin walking…past a green warning post on the right, past a stand of white pines on the left, past a crime watch sign (don’t be too wild!), and on around the corner to the straight-away. To keep the walk interesting, look for the little rise in the path and then continue down to the far north end. Once the path curves and you're facing west, walk roughly 30 more steps to where you see a large tree with a limb reaching out to greet you on the path. Walk into the woods to a cluster of 4 trunks. Look for an older tree behind these, a tree shortened by nature and leaning at a 45-degree angle. At knee height you'll find box #2. Please try to camouflage the opening when you replace the box. You can now retrace your steps or keep following the path west into another of Mounds Views’ pleasant parks.

Thanks for hunting for our boxes!
