Drive south on Beaver Meadow Road from route 52. On your right, you will pass several houses and then a large field that rises on a hill. At the edge of that field is a line of trees and along those trees is the trail (stone columns) where you will begin your search for "Clark Tower." Park along the right side of the road at the gate that begins this trail.

Walk past the gate and continue along the path. Stay straight at the first fork on the path and continue as it begins to climb gradually. After two curves in the path, glance to your right: you can see church steeples, Bassett Hospital and at times, Otsego Lake, site of many scenes from the Cooper tales. Continue straight at the second fork on the path. At the crest of the hill, turn left to see a smaller path leading up another hill.

As you climb this path, you will begin to see a cast-iron fence and Clark Tower, emerging from the greens. At the fence, pay homage to Button, "sportsman and faithful friend" and then turn right to walk along the fence. At the end, follow the fence by turning left. Stop at a felled tree inside the fence to honor Kellsborough Jack, once a winner of the English steeplechase. Continue along the fence, passing the tower on the left. At the next corner, continue left along the fence. Stop where three forest guardians collect to watch over the tower. On the tower-side of these three arboreal sentries rest three stones. The letterbox lies below.
