No matter which way you ROLL into this historic little town, you'll likely end up on Washington Street before long. Washington Street, also known as IL Route 106, takes you all the way through town, and right by the Visitor Center, where you'll find information on a variety of interesting things to see and do while you're in the area.
A unique 1894 octagonal red-domed courthouse is located in the town square, and if you're a Lincoln buff, you may also enjoy the "talking house" tour, where you can drive by a dozen or so, Lincoln-related locations in town, and listen to tour information on your vehicle's radio.
There are a variety of accommodations for both the indoor and outdoor-loving overnight guests. Public and private lakes/campgrounds, hotel/motel choices, and a variety of restaurant offerings for mealtime, but for a really GOOD TIME, try to locate a long, blue-colored building somewhere along West Washington Street, (on the south side of the road). The building sits at a lower elevation than the road, and has a parking lot out in front, (right off the highway), that slopes slightly downward, toward the building. There's an auto body shop on the west (right) side of the building, and the parking lot itself has a concrete wall along the east (left) side. Enter the parking lot; and look back diagonally across the road to the northeast. If you see a restaurant sitting there, and some large colorful footwear straight in front of you, you're at the right spot! Enter the door on the far right of the building; stop at the counter, and tell them that you're a letterboxer looking for a good time! LOL (P.S., This IS a family-friendly clue!) After stamping in, please return the box to the person at the counter, so that it may be enjoyed by others. Happy Trails !
