There are five boxes but only a logbook in the final box.

Mario started off across the bridge on his mission to defeat the evil Bowser.
He headed up the stairs to look for things to help him on his way.
At the choice, he chose 270.
Next time he had a choice, he went right,
and the next time he chose the opposite.
Before going up a sandy hill, Mario looked to the left and noticed a tree with holes in its base. He looked in one of these holes to find an item box!

Mario then continued on his journey.
When he came to the T, he went right.
He passed a green arrow.
Up, down, up, down.
Mario knew he would need a power up mushroom to defeat Bowser so he wandered behind a large multi-armed tree on the right.
Behind it was a fallen log where he found what he was seeking.

Next Mario entered a spooky area of dead standing pines.
Then he decided to choose the spruce.
Left side of the loop.
Mario noticed a muli-trunker on the left.
He walked past it to a group of small trunks clumped together and was surprised to find an invincibility star!

Now that he had invincibility, Mario was able to escape the spooky forest and enter a greener area.
But soon, the star power had run out and Mario had to venture back into the dead pines to look for a different kind of power up to help him get closer to Bowser.
Is that the sound of Bowser ahead? Nope just cars rushing past.
Mario headed toward the area of maples on the left.
He noticed an area of fallen logs among them.
He found what he was looking for in one of the intersections.

The flying feather would help him get to Bowser's castle but to defeat him, Mario really preferred fire power so he continued on his final search.
Now that he had made a circle, he chose 16 this time.
He noticed a curved maple on his left.
He climbed up a sandy curve.
At the choice, Mario chose left.
He took 55 paces and headed left into the woods.
Finally Mario found his final power up in a pile of old rotten remains!
