This letterbox is on top of Fort Mountain in Epsom, NH. It’s called “Bee an adventurer” because we like to go on lots of adventures. Planting this box was our first time up this mountain, so it was an adventure for us!

How to get there:

From rte. 28, take Deerfield Road for 1.6 miles.
Take a left onto New Rye Road for 1.9 miles.
Take a right onto Swamp Road for 1.5 miles.
Take a left onto Mountain View Road for .3 mile.
When you see the sign “Old Mountain Road” on the right, bear left following the road and take your 2nd right and park on this dirt road, but please don’t block the road. It says “no unauthorized vehicles” on a sign, but I believe that is a warning for further up the road, which is gated. This is where you start your hike.

Hike up the steep road (probably a little over a mile each way) up to the tower and building. Look at the view behind you periodically. The road/trail is open and in the sun the whole time, so make sure to wear sunscreen in the summer and try not to hike it in the middle of a VERY hot day as there is no shade on the way. Bring a snack/lunch and water and maybe hiking poles/sticks for the way down. This is a moderate hike with steep parts, so a young child may find it a little tough. Our six year old made it up and back, but he was a little tired going up. ☺

At the top, walk past the building and tower on your left and find the highest rock summit. Stand on this rock summit with your back to the building and the tower to the back of your left shoulder. If you have a clear day, look for Mt. Kearsarge in the distance (a gentle left, not a direct left). Look for the tallest pine tree with the shorter oaks around it. There is a small boulder in front of the cluster of trees. Look under the tallest pine behind some rocks and bark. There is “Bee”! Please make sure you snap it shut tight (it will make a snap sound) and re-hide it well. Enjoy the beautiful views. You may even want to bring some binoculars to see all the mountains or look at creatures. Return the way you came. Enjoy your adventure!
