** This box has been retired as of 9/27/11.**

This year's box of the month series got off to a rocky start, but it is in full swing now!!!

Each month for the year 2011 should bring a new box by a different letterboxer from around the country, and slightly different location along the same trail. The box should generally be in place the first week of the month and will be available through the 24th. Remember though that each one will be in a different location, so you will need to check the clues for the new spot.

This is my fourth year doing this and I was very happy to have a new trail in my hometown to use for it (especially with the price of gas right now!!!!!!!!!!).
Hunting is allowed during season along this trail, so be sure to wear blaze orange in season-this goes for your four legged companions also!!

From the intersection of routes 289 and 87, head west on route 87. You will come to a cemetary (with a few boxes to be found there ;-) on the right hand side of the road. Stop here and pull entirely off of the road.

Head down the trail that is marked by a large wooden sign. This is the beginning of the new Common Hills Trail. This is an old abandoned road and can get VERY wet at times so be sure to have the proper/waterproof footwear...

For the month of September of this series, start from where last month's (August's) box was...

From the hiding spot for August, continue along the trail.

Take the marked right hand turn and start heading uphill.

The trail gets more narrow and a little overgrown here. You will come across a rather large Beech tree that came down during Hurricane Irene.

Go around it (to the left was the easiest way that we found).

Start looking on the right for a meduim sized Oak tree with a scar near its base as well as a yellow blaze on it.

When you get to this tree there will be a large (about 4 foot across) rock next to it. Look behind this rock, behind a smaller rock, to find He's Great! by Mamanator of Michigan.

Please re-hide this box well and naturalize the area.

Have fun!

Flutterby

P.S.The trail was quite dry today when this box was placed, but there were two spots that had trees down from Hurricane Irene. They were easy enough to get around and get back on track though.!!!!!!
