This is the second of a three box series celebrating the different sides of our family. The first is planted in Vermont, and the third will be planted in Maine (where we got married) very soon.
Father and son Treehugger were both born in Worcester, and Father grew up in Tatnuck Square. He spent a lot of time at Cook Pond (though he and his family always have called it Cooks Pond) while growing up, participating in many activities (not all legal :) ) here. This pond is, hands down, the best place for his side of the Treehugger Root system. Though part of this area is private, the box is hidden on conservation land, and public access is allowed during daylight hours only.
To find starting location, take Mower Street from Tatnuck Square. At the fork, bear right on Olean. You will pass Tatnuck Gardens on the right, before coming to Juniper on the left. Cooks Pond will be on your right side at this point. Park on the right shoulder alongside the woods just before the pond.
Follow the trail that begins at the end of the chain link fence between the road and the water. Follow Days Path - there will be a red plaid sign nailed to a tall oak, about 15 feet off the ground. At the fork, bear right up a small hill. Continue to follow this trail, ignoring a smaller trail that merges in from the left. Stop when you reach a two-trunk tree that has a third tree wrapping around the left trunk. About 12 steps down the trail you will reach a fishing hole. Turn right, and with your back to the pond you will see a dead tree about 5 steps off the trail that has a hollow running up the lenght of the trunk.
