From HWY 160 in Mancos (Mancos is 27 miles west of Durango)turn north on HWY 184 just past the P&D grocery store. Turn right onto CR42 which becomes gravel road 561. Drive for about 13 miles staying on gravel road and following signs to the Jersey Jim Fire Lookout Tower. Once you reach the tower, park your car and start out by reading the historical marker sign infront of the tower. After reading the sign go around the left side of the tower and walk approximately 50 yards out into the meadow. Look to the left for a distinct path into the woods(w/two tire tracks). Walk for about 1/3 of a mile up the path. Stop when you reach a large clearing on your LEFT. Look downhill to your RIGHT into the woods for a tall metal structure that looks like it has no business being there in the middle of the forest. The Jersey Jim Fire Tower Letterbox is hidden very close to the tall metal structure! Have Fun!!! We placed this box here after staying for the weekend in the Jersey Jim Fire Tower -so fun - so beautiful!!!
