Splash Down Clues

Minekill State Park is located on Route 30 in the town of North Blenheim. It contains numerous hiking trails and lovely water falls. This is the first box to be placed in the State Park System, and by design should be a very easy box to find. Because it is so simple to find, please remember to use stealth when looking for it, and re-hide well. The park is open Daily from approximately 8:00 am to Dusk. (hours change with season)

After entering the park from Route 30, continue thru the contact booth and follow the signs into the pool parking lot.

At the one end of the parking lot you will see the pool complex. This is a very nice pool, so remember to bring your bathing suit to take a dip after you’ve found this letterbox.
Look to the left of the pool complex. The pool itself is fenced in, but just outside the “dive tank” you will see several benches. Approach the benches and admire all of the big splashing going on. As you watch the divers, to your right you will see a large bush, under here is what you seek.

Mace Family Reunion Letterbox

Family Reunion Clues

This letterbox is a little bit more difficult than the Splash Down box, but you’ll see some different things along the way.

After you have found the Splash Down box, turn around and head out of the parking lot, proceed to the mid-level picnic pavilion, you are looking for the Red Nature Trail. On your way to the Red Nature Trail, stop and visit the rain garden at the overlook. Here you will see how rainwater from the roof is captured and allowed to infiltrate into the groundwater instead of just running down the hill. Once you have found the beginning of the Red Nature trail, you are looking for the first Red White Pine. Under here is what you seek.

Why name it the Family Reunion? Because our family has been visiting Minekill State Park for many years, and at our last Mace Reunion, two of the youngest Mace children hid the box. Every year when we have our reunion, we will re-visit to see who has also enjoyed the park we love to picnic in. The stamp is not hand made, but appropriate for a summer time family reunion.

Keep a look out for more boxes to be added in the future. While you are in the area, you may want to visit the Gilboa Fossils and Gilboa Museum letterboxes as well.
