Time: less than an hour in Summer, a little over an hour in Winter
Terrain: easy in Summer, moderate in Winter
Clue Difficulty: easy

Driving Directions: From I-91, get off at exit 26, and go around the rotary to get on Route 2 West (The Mohawk Trail). Follow it for about 6 miles. Take a right on Little Mohawk Road, and bear left at the junction onto Patten Road. From Patten Road, go left at the next junction (this is still Patten Rd.) and then bear right, staying on Patten Rd. The entrance is about ½ mile on the left.

In the summer: Follow the very bumpy and rutted dirt road, and park at the gate.

In the winter: This road is impassable. Park at the "Road Closed" sign and start walking down the road. When faced with a choice of roads, hop over the wire with orange flags on it, and keep walking up the snowy road. There’s a "No Snowmobiles" sign here as well. Soon, pass the Water Thrush Trail on your right. Then, you’ll enter the parking area for summer visitors. Go around the metal gate in the road. The trail begins here.

Walk: Down the road beyond the metal gate, and pass a gnarled tree with long arms. Then, pass the Lady’s Slipper trail. Don’t go all the way to the lookout. A tree will give you remarkably good directions. From this tree, take 16 paces on the left-hand trail, and then turn 45º to face the valley below. Take about 10 more paces in this direction. Sight a tree growing over rocks, and look underneath.
