This stamp was carved by the 7 year old Mad Doctor. It was carved with the intention of launching a hitchhiker in a specific box. However, that box is no longer available. So, it was decided to place a new letterbox instead.

Our kids also like the Harry Potter series, so to them, everything looks like something out of a Harry Potter movie.

The Thorne Pond Conservation Area is located on Rt. 302 in Bartlett. From the North Conway area, take Rt. 302 West, past the Attitash ski area on the left. Across from the Grand Summit Hotel entrance (which will be on your left), there is an unpaved parking lot on your right.

NOTE: No inkpad or pen is included in this letterbox. Please be sure to bring an inkpad and pen.

Enter the conservation area at the beautiful steel gate. Before you reach the pond, take a right, down into a gully, crossing a plywood bridge. Continue along the path. (NOTE: July 2013 - the plywood bridge no longer exists. From the parking lot, looking at the kiosk, in the corner of the lot to the right there is a path. take this path, and follow along. it will ultimately meet up with the path on the other side of the old plywood bridge.

At trail marker "18" go towards the right. (July 2013 - this sign had fallen down, but we wedged it into a tree.) Soon you will pass a Whomping Willow (according to our kids - not really sure what kind of tree it is, but it looks dead) on your right. The trail soon skirts a vernal pool on your right.

Soon you enter a pine forest that reminds the kids of the Forbidden Forest. Finally, you break back out into the sunshine.

Follow this trail until you reach a "T" intersection, with a wide (about 20 feet) grassy access road. Take a right.

Continue for approximately 125 single adult steps. Reaching an intersection, turn right.

Take approximately 24 single adult steps. On the right, approximately 5 feet in, is a 5 sister maple tree.

Your prize is behind the tree, under a slab of asphalt (but NOT is the large pile of asphalt that you can see).

Just up the hill, past the building you can see, is Rt. 302. There is a railroad crossing here. If you are lucky, you might see the Conway Scenic RR train pass by while you are here.

Stamp in, and please rehide well. Reverse your steps to return to the parking area.
