Birch Lake Cemetery is one of the stops on the Underground Railroad Society of Cass County 'tour'. For more information on these sites and the Underground Railroad in Cass County go to urscc.org (or search Bonine House).
At the light in Vandalia, turn South onto Main St. which becomes Paradise Cove Rd. The road is twisty but just keep following it. It is approx. 4 miles from the light to the cemetery. At Brownsville Rd. turn left and shortly take another left onto James Rd. The cemetery will be on your left. Turn in After you see the sign. Headstones are VERY close to the driveway! Pass Hunt on the right. Then see lots of EAST's on the right. Curve left and past a bench on right. Up a hill. More EAST's on left. BIGGAR EAST on left. Park. Two little stones on right. More EAST's!! Look behind the stump.
