SEASONAL LETTERBOX AVAILABLE MAY THROUGH OCTOBER

The Barred owl has a very interesting call, sounding something like “who cooks for you, who cooks for you all”. Barred owls are one of four owls that are commonly found in the park. The other three types are great horned owls, saw-whet owls and eastern screech owls. The great horned owl is the most common owl found in the Porcupine Mountains area, and interestingly enough they are one of few animals that prey on skunks! Most owls are nocturnal, so catching a glimpse of one can be an exciting moment.

If you are coming from Silver City, take County Road 107 and turn left onto the South Boundary Road. If you are coming from Wakefield, take County Road 519 and turn right onto South Boundary Road. You will follow this road (from either direction) until you come to the Little Carp River Road. Follow Little Carp River Road until you reach the parking area, and park here. Follow the trail to overlooked falls. Take in the beauty around you! Continue down the trail until you see the trail closed sign. Directly to the right of the sign, there will be another tree. See the back of the tree to find out who cooks for you!
