SEASONAL LETTERBOX AVAILABLE MAY-OCTOBER

Hunting and fishing are great activities that the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park offers. All hunting and fishing must be done in accordance seasonal rules and regulations. Most fishing within the park is for Brook Trout: however Lake of the Clouds has an excellent small mouth bass fishery. The Visitor Center loans out fishing poles to those who are interested in experiencing what fishing in the park has to offer! About 95% of the park is open to hunting, excluding popular day use areas as well as campgrounds. Hunting plays a key role in the management of game species like white tail deer and black bear. For more information on hunting and fishing in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, stop in at the Visitor Center.

On the west side of the park is Presque Isle River. Get here by either taking county road 519 north from Wakefield or South Boundary road from the east side of the park. Once here, park in the day use area. Follow the West River trail and enjoy all the Presque Isle River has to offer! Continue on this trail until you come to the Nawadaha falls viewing deck. After viewing this fall, continue down the path until you see the trail sign on a tree on your right. From here, go about 43 paces. Turn to your left and locate the tall dead white pine stump. You will find your letterbox here!
