SEASONAL LETTERBOX AVAILABLE MAY THROUGH OCTOBER
Binoculars can be a great accessory when in a park like this. If you forgot your binoculars, the Visitor Center loans them out. Consider checking out a pair before you start your adventure to find this letterbox.
A fantastic chain of cliffs known as the Escarpment is the home to this letterbox. There are spectacular views of the Big Carp River Valley hundreds of feet below, as well as viewing one of the main attractions in the park, beautiful Lake of the Clouds. The Escarpment trail is also home to a great variety of birds. A bird checklist is available at the Visitor Center to those who would like to know the birds that inhabit the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. After finding this letterbox, don’t forget to check out the observation area at Lake of the Clouds!
From the Lake of the Clouds parking area at the end of county road 107, follow the paved pathway. Just before you reach the rock surface, there is a path to your left. This is the escarpment trail. Follow this timber lined rock path until you reach it’s junction with the North Mirror Lake trail. There will be a bench, which you may want to rest upon. Look directly behind the bench and you’ll see a large tree standing by itself. Your surprise is inside.
