This letterbox was part of the 2011 GO and Explore Your World! program, and was available from June 1, 2011 - September 5, 2011. Stay tuned for the 5th annual GO York program, to start in June 2012. Information about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
The GO and Explore Your World! program uses checkpoints - wooden posts with engraved plates attached to them - instead of traditional letterboxes and stamps. Please carefully rub an impression from the engraved plate into your Passport (program guide), available at any York County Library.
This letterbox is located in John C. Rudy County Park and is rated "moderate" by GO York standards.
- Park in the Pines Picnic Area.
- Look for the blacktop path right next to the parking lot. Look toward the softball fields (north), turn left and follow the blacktop path, passing the gazebo on your left.
- Continue following the blacktop path up the hill turning right at the second blacktop path intersection.
- Follow that path until you reach the next blacktop path on your right. Turn right, watching the sun dial on your left.
- Stop at the sun dial and check the time by looking at your shadow!
- Continue following the blacktop path until you reach the âTâ intersection in the trail. (The intersection is located in the wood line.)
- Turn left, following the blacktop path up the hill in the wood line. Continue to follow the trail straight, crossing the back entrance road (Canine Meadows is on your left) until the path ends.
- Continue to follow the dirt trail up the hill, behind the BMX track, until you reach a trail intersection (in the woods at top of hill).
- Turn right and follow this trail about 100 yards out into the field. Look for an observation deck. The checkpoint should be located on the deck.
